Email Client Setup
You should have received a username, password, and list of email addresses — for example:
| Username | Password | Addresses |
|---|---|---|
alice | pa$$w0rd | alice@suntrup.net, al@suntrup.net |
Here's what to do with them.
Download and configure a mail client
On the destop I recommend Thunderbird or Outlook, but you can use whatever you want
On your phone, you can also download Thunderbird or you can use iOs or Android mail.
My recommendation for both is Thunderbird. It's free and open source, and it's something I can help with if needed. You can even add other mail accounts to Thunderbird so that they're all in one place. Whatever you pick, the first thing you'll have to do is configure IMAP and SMTP. This is what you'll enter:
Incoming mail (IMAP)
| Setting | Value |
|---|---|
| Server | mail.suntrup.net |
| Port | 993 |
| Security | SSL/TLS |
| Username | alice |
| Password | pa$$w0rd |
Outgoing mail (SMTP)
| Setting | Value |
|---|---|
| Server | mail.suntrup.net |
| Port | 587 |
| Security | STARTTLS |
| Username | alice |
| Password | pa$$w0rd |
Adding your email addresses
Your account may have more than one address (like alice: alice@suntrup.net and al@suntrup.net). Once your client is connected, add each address as an additional identity so you can send from any of them:
- Thunderbird: Account Settings → your account → Manage Identities → Add
- Apple Mail: Settings → Accounts → your account → Email Address (comma-separate multiple addresses)
- Outlook: File → Account Settings → your account → More Settings → General → add aliases to the name field, or use the "From" dropdown when composing
- iOS / Android Mail: Settings → your account → edit the email address field to add aliases
